Sudan
Sudan is the largest country on the African continent. The Sudanese are warm, hospitable and friendly people. Unfortunately, civil war, conflicts, foreign debt and famine have added enormous pressure to life in Sudan over the years. Operation Mercy is investing in the lives of the Sudanese children by rescuing and rehabilitating street boys around the country. Four centres and a half way house have been developed over many years to provide hope, education and protection for these boys. Graduates from university, successful employees, and stable members of the community give evidence to the success and value of this transforming work. Operation Mercy partners with MCC in Sudan.
Due to continual conflict, many children have been displaced with or without their families and many live on the streets. We rescue and rehabilitate street boys around the country. The centres rescue these precious children from malnutrition or starvation, abuse, violence or addictions and provide the boys a live-in-centre, ensuring all their foundational needs are met. The boys are also on a full academic, recreational and counselling programme. Graduates from university, successful employees, and stable members of the community give evidence of the success and value of this transforming work.

A street boys program rescues boys in Western Sudan. This is our fourth centre. We started with a feeding centre in two rented rooms and then the local government gave us a piece of land, which we were able to develop into a group home. We currently have 20 boys living at the centre with a caregiver family. The boys have school at the centre and a full programme of activities.

A halfway house is provided for those graduating boys who reach nineteen years of age but have no home. This gives them a safe place to grow in independence whilst giving them opportunities to develop life and occupational skills through a shop and small business workshops. We encourage and help these young men to gain employment or develop small businesses.

Our boys leave the live-in centres when they reach the age of nineteen. We continue to support their schooling and higher education. Some boys are still in school because they started school very late. Some are in technical college and some at University. We have two young men who have graduated from University and several who have completed technical training. We currently have four young men in University, two in Aviation College and one in Technical College. We also support twenty-six young men in school.
