The All About Children project is housed in Kindergarten #26 in Khujand with additional satellite programs in several local communities. The project assists over 100 children between six months and eight years of age with disabilities to reach their full potential intellectually, physically and socially. The aim is to prepare children with disabilities for inclusion into local kindergartens or primary schools. Throughout the year, outings provide these children with experiences alongside able-bodied children. In October, our children from the project along with children from mainstream kindergartens participated together in a one-week camp.
Not only do we run a kindergarten for children with disabilities, but we also provide sessions for early intervention where trained staff provide learning opportunities for a child as young as 6 months of age, and give family members information to promote their child’s development.
A home visiting program reaches those children unable to attend group sessions. Five communities each week are visited by our trained staff.
Wheelchairs and other mobility aids have also been imported from Europe and distributed by our staff.
Our project is reaching not only individuals and families but Operation Mercy staff has also been holding seminars on “Preparing Schools/Communities for Working with children with disabilities.” Last October, All About Children staff provided a seminar for 200 school directors on “Integration/Inclusion of children with disabilities into schools and society.”
